Driving Directions:

From Silverton, Colorado, Follow U.S. Highway 550 to Silverton. Continue north through the town toward Howardsville. Approximately 3 miles past Howardsville, turn onto Cunningham Gulch Road (FDR #589) and follow this road to the trailhead. 2WD vehicles may not be able to make it to the end. About 3/4 of a mile from the trailhead there is parking available for those wishing to stop.

Hiking Directions:

This trail provides the shortest route to the Continental Divide in this district. It offers many opportunities for rock-hunting, fishing and the observation of the flora and fauna of the high country. In August you will find the best proliferation of flowers. The Continental Divide provides photo opportunities of the Grenadier Mountains. Most of the hike is above timberline.
